Shortly before 6:30 p.m. on June 2, a Putnam County Sheriff’s deputy on patrol in Southeast stopped 35-year-old Carlos Agosto-Mendez on Route 6 for various vehicle and traffic violations between Argone Road and Starr Ridge Road.

During the stop, the deputy reported that Agosto-Mendez appeared to be intoxicated, and he proceeded to fail multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. A breathalyzer found that his blood alcohol content was greater than .08 percent and he was taken into custody. Several empty beer bottles were also found in his vehicle.

Agosto-Mendez was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated. A DMV check also found that Agosto-Mendez was driving with a suspended license and he was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, also a misdemeanor. Agosto-Mendez was held for arraignment and is due in Southeast Town Court later this month to answer the charges.
